Flag Cake: 2014

This past 4th of July, my family got together at my sister's house again, and of course, I made desserts. The kiddos all pitched in to help this time around! We made a total of four different treats: striped nutty crispies, patriotic parfait popsicles, freedom berry boats, and of course, the ever-present flag cake, which I also made last year (along with the crispies).

The Flag Cake! Yay! My six (almost seven!) year-old niece helped me make it this time around. She insisted. This is probably her favorite cake of all time. Thing is, my niece loves fruit, any kind. But her favorite are papayas and berries. And this cake is berry-flavored with berries on top, so she was over the moon. Seriously, she's been bugging me to make this since Memorial Day. You can't see it here, but it actually burnt a bit on the bottom, because I left my sister in charge of the oven while I went to run some errands outta the house. The kids still effed it up, though. Everyone liked it, except my sister's youngest stepson, but that's okay. He liked everything else we made!

Quite honestly, I think last years cake was prettier. The decorations this year were awesome, though!
